USBA an Incubator and Connector of Innovation

USBA's Innovation Incubator encompasses efforts to facilitate incorporating innovations and services from the commercial banking industry, to identify and produce technologies needed for USBA missions and member programs. It also nurtures new technologies and ideas through USBA that will revolutionize the  banking industry. The program fosters partnerships that engage companies and private citizens in banking technology development, bring fresh ideas into USBA, help emerging technologies reach maturity, and promote the growth of a competitive banking industry. 

Innovation Incubator components include: 

-21st Century Challenges: USBA’s prize program for the “citizen inventor".

-Innovation Collaboration: New links between USBA and creative companies. 

-Facilitated Access to the Banking Environment for Technology Development and Training (FABE): Opportunities for development, training, and implementation of emerging technologies in the banking industry.  

-Innovative Technology Initiative:  Nurturing revolutionary concepts to benefit USBA and its members' missions and other local, regional, and national challenges. 

-21st Century Challenges competitions encourage the participation of independent teams, individual inventors, student groups, and private companies of all sizes in banking research and development. “Citizen inventors” are charged with finding the most innovative solutions to specific technical challenges through competition and cooperation. Program cash and other prizes are awarded. 

-Innovation Collaboration Program seeks to bring fresh ideas to USBA through technology workshops and developmental assignments with external organizations. One element, Innovation Ambassadors, allows USBA members employees to spend up to a year working in high tech environments outside their bank where they can share their expertise while gaining valuable experience and new ideas to bring back to their jobs within USBA member organizations. Another element, Innovation Scouts, supports innovation workshops to be held between USBA and external organizations that have novel approaches to problems of interest to USBA member banks. 

-FABE has the multiple objective of introducing, demonstrating, presenting, educating and facilitating purchase of commercial banking technology products and services from the emerging commercial banking technology sector. As well as, advancing technology with market maturity through use of FABE services. The program supports commercially available technology capabilities.
 

-Innovative Technology Initiative is intended to enhance USBA’s efforts to nurture new technologies and novel ideas to revolutionize banking enterprises. Its central component is the USBA Innovation Fund, a new funding structure that is designed to support USBA innovators in the early stages of formulating concepts for novel technologies and new processes, particularly those with potential to also address other local, regional, national and global challenges.   
  

Projects generally are those that are too early in their development to compete for support from other banking industry funding sources.
